High school students across the country and around the world take AP courses and exams to challenge themselves, explore their interests, earn college credit and gain “advanced” placement for course selections. Your AP exam scores can earn college credit before you set foot on a college campus, and perhaps, let you skip introductory college courses. Since 1993, the State Legislature has provided funds to support student achievement and increase both student AP participation and performance with subsidizes for AP exam fees and district reimbursements for a portion of a teacher’s training registration fee through the enactment of the AP/IB Incentive Program.

AP Classroom Support for School and District Leaders
2025-2026 AP-IB Exam Subsidy is $27
The AP-IB exam state subsidy for the Spring 2026 administration will be $27 for each AP and IB exam taken by a subsidy-eligible student. All students enrolled in a Texas public school may be considered for a Texas AP-IB exam fee subsidy. However, each student’s eligibility must be confirmed using the published criteria, which can be found on the . The criteria to qualify for a Texas exam fee subsidy is the same for both AP and IB students and the subsidy applies to every AP and IB exam taken by an eligible student.
AP/IB Exam Subsidy Reimbursements
AP exam fee subsidies will be granted as a discount on the AP Program Invoice to be paid by the school, on or before June 15, 2026.
- The College Board will invoice ݮƵ for the 2026 AP exam fee subsidies credited on each campus AP Program Invoice.
- After reconciliation of the state invoice, ݮƵ will reimburse the College Board’s AP Program for AP exam fee subsidies granted to districts on their June 2026 invoices.
- IB exam fee subsidies will be managed by each school and/or district.
- Each school may submit a ݮƵ IB exam fee reimbursement (subsidy) application after all 2026 IB exams have been administered.

Planning for the 2025-2026 School Year
- The . The College Board will provide a $37 fee reduction per AP Exam taken by an eligible student with financial need. In addition, schools are expected to forgo their $9 rebate for these students. With the Texas subsidy of $27, the resulting cost of an AP exam taken by an eligible student will be $26.
- AP exams will be ordered through the online AP Classroom. The preferred AP exam ordering deadline is October 3, 2025, with the final order deadline of November 14, 2025.
- A Texas IB exam subsidy will be reimbursed for each eligible student exam submitted through the 2026 IB Student Exam Fee Subsidy Reimbursement Application. The subsidy should be applied to IB exams, as published on the .
